1. Can = สามารถ
ใช้พูดถึงความสามารถ:
I can speak English.
ฉันพูดอังกฤษได้
ขออนุญาต:
Can I come in?
ขอเข้าได้ไหม
2. Could = สามารถ / สุภาพกว่า can
Could you help me?
ช่วยฉันหน่อยได้ไหม
When I was young, I could run fast.
ตอนเด็กฉันวิ่งเร็วได้
3. May = อาจ / ขออนุญาตแบบทางการ
May I ask a question?
ขอถามคำถามได้ไหม
It may rain today.
วันนี้อาจฝนตก
4. Might = อาจจะ (โอกาสน้อยกว่า may)
She might come later.
เธออาจมาทีหลัง
5. Will = จะ
I will call you tomorrow.
ฉันจะโทรหาคุณพรุ่งนี้
6. Would = จะ / อยาก / สุภาพ
Would you like some coffee?
รับกาแฟไหม
I would travel more if I had money.
ฉันจะเที่ยวมากกว่านี้ถ้ามีเงิน
7. Should = ควร
You should sleep early.
คุณควรนอนเร็ว
8. Must = ต้อง
You must wear a helmet.
คุณต้องสวมหมวกกันน็อก
ใช้เดาอย่างมั่นใจ:
He must be tired.
เขาต้องเหนื่อยแน่ ๆ
9. Have to = จำเป็นต้อง
I have to work tomorrow.
ฉันจำเป็นต้องทำงานพรุ่งนี้
have to = ความจำเป็นจากสถานการณ์
must = ผู้พูดเน้นว่าต้องทำ
